The Knitting & Stitching Show 2017 Alexandra Palace, London - Event Review

The Knitting & Stitching Shows are the definitive events for anyone with a love of textile-based craft. The Autumn show at the iconic Alexandra Palace is the biggest textile event in the UK, with hundreds of workshops, demonstrations, interactive features, professionally curated galleries, as well as 300 exhibitors selling specialist craft supplies. Spend a day re-stocking your yarn stash, learning to knit, mastering the art of tailoring and more. There has never been a better excuse to get involved in craft!

The 'Tiger Bag'. An original design by Vivienne Westwood, lovingly recreated here by Hand & Lock. The design is one of Vivienne's all-time favourites, accentuated by traditional goldwork, tambour beading and appliqued chiffon fabric.

Toft's wonderful Giraffe was on display on their stand. Entirely made of wool, he always causes quite the stir with the children visitors!

''Heraldic Swan' by Melita Butterall. Made entirely from fabric, it really stands out from its frame. We loved the embroidery detail.

''Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf' by Nicola Veysey Williams. Made by free machining with metallic thread on sheer fabric. The Wolf and Red Riding Hood are made from needle felting onto a wire armature. The tree has been pleated, stitched and burned using a soldering iron.

''The Bandar Log' by Georgina Bellamy. Inspired by Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book'. Fantastic goldwork in 3D. No wonder it was locked away in an acrylic cage!

''The Art of Illustration' by Shirley Smith. Stumpwork butterflies and moths worked on Calico with DMC stranded threads and mounted on Khodi paper. These delicate butterflies looked entirely real. Very impressive!

'And finally a knitted 3D Church! Knitted by the Dolphin WI Knitting Group.  Incredibly this entire 3D piece was as big as a large table, and entirely made of wool.

The Knitting & Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace will return next year, 11th - 14th October 2018.
