In this edition of Dealer Focus, we explore Threads in Minehead, West Somerset, a classic, family-run seaside sewing shop with an unbeatable inventory!

Threads fabric, wool and haberdashery shop is a family-run business located in the seaside town of Minehead on the West Somerset coast, bordering North Devon. With a family background of needlecraft, Jackie took over the existing business and in three years has developed Threads to what it is today, remaining true to the principles of a traditional haberdashery despite offering everything the modern needleworker needs, all in one place.

Our aim is to encourage and inspire needlecrafters and we offer a full range of workshops and classes for all ages and abilities. We try to keep up to date with all the latest trends in needlecrafts and are constantly expanding our range of stock and selection of workshops on offer.

 

A diverse range of sewing products 

Jackie’s passion is patchwork is reflected in the range of patchwork fabrics and displays there are on offer. She runs most of the quilting classes and we also have a Handi Quilter long arm machine which is available for hire by the hour. We sell fabrics for all types of project, be it patchwork and quilting, dressmaking, crafts, soft furnishings or curtaining. We also stock Simplicity patterns and all the notions and haberdashery needed to complete sewing projects; buttons, zips, threads, ribbons and trims.

Along with our soft furnishing fabrics we hold a good selection of tools, waddings, braids and trims for upholstery projects. We hold a range of oilcloths and other ‘utility’ fabrics. Our soft furnishing fabric room also has a selection of net curtains, curtain rails and cushion inners, and we stock upholstery-grade foam which we are able to cut to our customers' size requirements.

We are stockists for King Cole and James Brett yarns and hold a wide selection of knitting patterns, and have a good selection of books covering most needlecrafters' needs. What's more, customers can also take advantage of our dry cleaning service, with twice-weekly pick-ups and garment alteration and repairs, both of which have become increasingly popular with our customers.

Brother machines for every skill level

Jackie has used Brother sewing machines for many years, and we were appointed Brother agents in 2016. As well as our display of new sewing and embroidery machines, we have a range of Brother demonstration machines used for our classes and workshops. We also service Brother machines and are approved to carry out warranty repairs.

We have a selection of sewing machines from entry models up to the Innov-is 1300 and including embroidery machines. We also have overlockers and coverstitch machines for you to try and a whole host of accessories. Our Brother demonstration machines are always available for use in our classes and workshops; an ideal opportunity to help you decide what you would like from a machine and try before you buy.

Threads is family run and really is an old-fashioned traditional fabric, wool and haberdashery shop.  We are so proud when holiday makers visit us from all corners of the UK (and sometimes the world) saying “We don’t have shops like this anymore where we live”.
