Hello again Brother fans! Jen here, from sewing blog The Gingerthread Girl. I just wanted to stop by to spill the beans on my latest adventures with my Brother sewing machine. I have been having a blast up in the sewing room, getting to grips with gathering.  I love how this simple sewing technique takes a straightforward seam, and gives it an oomph of girly ‘flounciness’ - perfect for floating through the summertime in!  The pattern I chose was the Deer & Doe Myosotis dress (version A). I was immediately drawn to the tiered ruffles of the skirt, and those gorgeous sleeves!  I had this lovely linen/viscose blend lilac fabric from Sew Me Sunshine in my stash, and I decided this would make the perfect summer dress. Hello sewists! I am thrilled to be back on the Brother blog. This time I am bringing you my latest make – and a very special one at that. As summertime started to peek it’s sunshiney face round the end of Spring, it got me to thinking about all those exciting summery things to come. Including the return of wedding season!  An invitation to a wedding is such a wonderful opportunity to start planning a fancy frock. I just love a wedding – the excitement of getting ready, seeing the happy couple tie the knot, ohh and the flowers, the food, the drink... so many things about weddings that have me all excited! So, when a very beautiful wedding invitation from my friends landed on my doormat earlier this year, I wasted no time in dreaming up this little beauty. The pattern I chose for this make is a Deer & Doe Magnolia Dress (maxi version), and the fabric I used was one I had been eyeing up for some time – a bamboo silk in this stunning ‘saffron’ yellow colour...

An Introduction This is one of the most amazing domestic sewing machines I have ever used, and of course, it is by my favourite brand Brother. The Brother Innov-is 1300 ticks all the boxes both for versatility and ease of use. It is packed with so many features that I cannot hope to go over them all in this one post, so I am going to concentrate on getting you up and running. It is fabulous for both dressmaking and quilting having just over 8" workspace to the right of the needle, quilters will know the importance of this. It has an advanced square feed drive system (SFDS) which delivers a really good feed on all fabrics but - and this is my favourite - it enables the machine to sew sideways as well as backwards and forwards and it means too that it has the capacity of sewing extra wide decorative stitches.
