The Sewing Shop, Canterbury goes from strength to strength!

"Tucked away in one of Canterbury’s quaint side-streets, but metres from both the High Street and the Cathedral, The Sewing Shop is both a haven of inspiration and an Aladdin’s cave of eye candy.

The boutique, which stocks Brother sewing machines, bursts with colour and warmth; trinkets handmade by local artists sit in the window, displayed in upcycled antique cabinets alongside pretty sewing boxes and jelly rolls.

The ladies who work at The Sewing Shop are young and fashion-forward, and the fabrics stocked (predominantly patchwork cotton and dress fabrics) reflect this. Bright colours, vintage prints and the best in modern design line the walls, offset by homemade bunting and cushions scattered around the store showcasing some of the best fabrics. The shop is geared towards making sewing and knitting accessible to everyone by modelling a contemporary approach to craft, while simultaneously catering for more experienced clientele. As well as a well-stocked shop floor, upstairs there are two floors of workshops with classes running several times a week teaching everything from basic knitting and sewing skills, crafty coffee mornings and beginners patchwork to dressmaking, free-motion embroidery and advanced quilting techniques.

The shop recently celebrated its first birthday with free workshops and cupcakes and is in the process of expanding its online profile. You can now find them on twitter and on Facebook where you can find news, tutorials and interesting tidbits from the goings-on among the creative and quirky sales assistants; most excitingly, along with a soon-to-be-relaunched website, there is a blog in the works with features and tutorials planned including sewing tips, shoestring wedding how-tos and general fun stuff."
